Pembridge Film Nights - March 2024
One Life (PG)
We’ve managed to get permission to show One Life on Thursday 7th March, only a few days after its release outside the big circuits.
One Life is an incredible true story of bravery and heroism featuring Sir Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to the Second World War, rescued 669 children from the Nazis. Nicky visited Prague in December 1938 and found families who had fled the rise of the Nazis in Germany and Austria, living in desperate conditions with little or no shelter and food, and under threat of Nazi invasion. He immediately realized it was a race against time. How many children could he and the team rescue before the borders closed?
A superb cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Helena Bonham Carter, and Johnny Flynn (The Motive and the Cue). We are sure this will sell out quickly, so Book here.
Local Hero (PG)
As you know, the venue for Pembridge Film Nights is the New Inn in the center of our village. And amazingly it’s coming up to 40 years since Jane became the licensee. Aided by sister Rosie, Jane still runs the New Inn, and we wanted to celebrate with her. Since our specialty at PFN is films, we’ve got a gem of a film for you that has also been around for 40 years - the whimsical Local Hero.
And a special treat for our regular patrons at Pembridge Film Night. If you’ve attended at least three of our films this season, your seat for Local Hero will only cost you £2. We have 20 seats available at that price, so choose the £2 ticket option when you book for Local Hero (soon if you want the special deal!). We’ll check your eligibility when your booking arrives and cancel the booking (and return your payment) if you’re not eligible. You can still buy normally priced tickets of course.
This is what the Guardian said recently about Local Hero: “Bill Forsyth’s wonderfully wistful and charming comedy is rereleased after 40 years, and its happy-sad aroma is still as pungent as ever. It has a claim to be the last movie with the authentic spirit of the Ealing comedies; although with a longer perspective, we can also see how it’s also indirectly influenced by producer David Puttnam in its high-minded spirit of Anglo-American amity. This wistful 80s comedy snares your heart with charm and beauty. Five stars.”
