PIPs January 2024

Pride in Pembridge (PIPs)

After a November spent planting spring bulbs around the village and tidying beds for the winter, PIPs members took a deserved rest in December – aside, that is, from the traditional PIPs Christmas Dinner at the New Inn, when 20 members and partners gathered for delicious food and lots of chat and happy banter.

Early-ish in 2024 PIPs will be organising a village litter pick (probably late Jan/ early Feb.) We would welcome involvement from the people of Pembridge – the more the merrier – and we will advertise the dates nearer the time. But we are pleased to be able to say that some of our work has been done for us by a group from Kingspan who contacted us in the autumn wanting to make a contribution to the community by tidying the approaches to the Kingspan site. PIPs were delighted to support this with equipment and advice. (Photo: PIPs Chair and Secretary (Colin Piers and Karen Goodwin with the team from Kingspan.)

PIPs will also be doing a midwinter “sweep” of the planted areas we look after, tidying and tying up as we go. We will also take stock and make plans for the coming year in our meetings (held in the New Inn usually on the first Wednesday of the month) which recommence in January, after the December break.

PIPs have been fortunate to sign up a number of new members in 2023 and we would welcome lots more. We generally go out on a Thursday morning between 10 and 12, meeting at the Market outside the New Inn. We also organise social events (e.g. we have a Steak ‘n Bowl evening booked for late January this year) and garden visits in the summer.
